WHY A 3 WEEK CLASS? It usually takes 3 classes before you get the hang of figure drawing. We will be exploring multiple techniques with a fully nude female model.

LONG BEFORE SHE earned her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Snohomish native Krista Kelly was getting an education in art. At age nine, she’d sneak into UW drawing classes with her mom and have professors critique her work. As the founder of Bilinear Art Consulting, she helps people and businesses acquire artwork and reimagine their visual environment.

Is outfitting a home with sculpture and video installations at all like  accessorizing an outfit?

I’m motivated by mixing textiles, color palettes, and cuts no matter the context. I  enjoy wearing street clothes and couture together, and I like classic fine art with custom, less inexpensive one-of-a-kind pieces.

What’s “Seattle style,” and do you have it?

A common complaint is that people here don’t dress up. When I came back from Chicago, I got nasty looks for wearing high heels and short skirts. I learned to ignore them. My style icons are female rappers like Salt-n-Pepa and Missy Elliott. They made it sexy to be assertive.

First designer clothing purchase

 A Martin Margiela silver sport coat in 2006. I still love and wear it. Margiela’s fabrics are durable and cool.

First art purchase

An early 1900s pencil drawing of a young lady. I found it in an antique store in Eastern Washington when I was 15. It must have been about $30. My dad still has it.

Wearing

Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti dress and Delman heels from Butch Blum, and an H&M jean jacket that I wear with almost everything. It looks like it came from the corner of an old garage but it’s very well tailored.

Until such time as International Here’s What Your Friend Does at Her Office All Day Day, you’ve at least got the chance to see some of the art consultation projects completed by Style Counselor Krista Kelly;. (You’re on your own if you want to actually get inside her office at the old Rainier bottling plant.)

“I find I am excavating and interpreting my client’s style,” Kelly told me when I asked if stylish people live in stylish environments, and vice versa. “Most people have opinions on their taste and just want to be informed about their options.”

LAXART is pleased to present a new public billboard by Los Angeles/San Francisco-based artist Matt Lipps. Untitled (Women's Heads) emerges from Lipps' ongoing project, HORIZON/S. Inspired by a 1933 photograph of the storage room inside the De Young Museum taken by Ansel Adams in which various disparate objects were configured on the same visual plane, Lipps began a series of aesthetic investigations that problematize the logic of art history and museums which calls for an organizing structure of objects based on temporal or geographic relationships. In this specific work, Lipps mobilizes a range of female subjects from various geographies and realms of aesthetic representation and brings them together to construct a poetic gesture that aims to layer an all encompassing female gaze onto the cityspace. Problematizing patriarchal narrative structures and charging the often-marginalized female subject, Lipps reconfigures art historical practices through his first public intervention in Los Angeles.-LAXART

The show represents a unique view of the development of British sculpture, exploring what we mean by the terms British and sculpture by bringing the two together in a chronological series of strongly themed galleries, each making its own visual argument.

The ground is covered in a vibrant orange, red and yellow confetti asserting fall is upon us and reminding us change is a beautiful thing. Colorful changes are happening at The Columbia Tower Club as well. With the help of Krista Kelly from Bilinear Art Consulting, Donald Dewsnup the CTC Committee Arts Chair, and Ann Pryde Member of the CTC Board have selected various art pieces to place throughout the club.

Sculptures and paintings compiling more than 20 pieces have been selected from three Seattle based galleries RE Welch Gallery, Woodside/Braseth Gallery, and Cullom Gallery. Selected and installed with the viewer in mind, the artwork showcases the talents of local curators and artists.

After exiting the elevator, the visitors’ gaze is immediately drawn to “Vantage” by Victoria Adams (2009, oil/wax on linen, 60" x 60") which mimics a window overlooking a cloud filled sky on an otherwise bare wall. In the Magnolia Room, “Rearing Horse" by Kenneth Callahan (c.1960's, acrylic on paper, 52" x 56") reveals the role of power and elegance. Next to the infamous women’s lounge hangs “Dolce e Oro Sweet and Gold” by Saltarelli (oil and gold leaf on canvas, 36” x 32”) which captures the grace and beauty of a woman with a hint of gold sparkle. Finally, artwork from Cullom Gallery will be chosen next week for the CTC Collection. A piece now on show at Cullom Gallery is “Dorthy Bradford Comes to America” by Annie Bissett (2009, Japanese woodcut print, 22" x 9.5").

The installations create an ambiance new to the 75th and 76th floor. Come view the club as you’ve never seen it before!
