Phantom Galleries LA


"Phantom Galleries LA is a Los Angeles County based organization that transforms vacant storefront into temporary public art galleries. Each installation is a unique relationship between the participating Artist, Curator, Property Owner and the Community that the exhibit is in. Exhibits are curated by local Arts Organizations, Los Angeles based Galleries, Independent Curators, and Los Angeles based Artists. The project gives local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work, while fostering economic development by drawing attention to available retail space. The project promotes the creative communities of Los Angeles to a broader audience. Aqua Art Miami at the Aqua Hotel

Aqua Art Miami contemporary art fair takes place in Miami concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach, December 1st-5th. This year the fair returns to its roots at the Aqua Hotel where it was first launched in 2005. Based in Seattle, Aqua's organizers have made it their mission to promote innovative programming from the west coast as well as the greater USA and abroad, with a particular interest in young dealers and galleries with strong emerging artist programs. A number of new dealers have made their debut at Aqua, as well as other exhibitors and artists who have never shown at an art fair before.

The goal of this course is to help students build a portfolio for student acceptance to national art colleges such as California Institute of the Arts, Parsons the New School of Design, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Cooper Union, Rhode Island School of Design, and School of The Museum of Fine Arts. The course will include previous portfolio review, life drawing, low-fi animation diorama, inventive design with acetone, as well as vocabulary and concept building.

Picture an electrified wind chime; as the wind blows the metal chime into contact with the metal gong, it closes a circuit. Firefly's LED/switch pairs do the same thing, except on a much smaller scale. When the wind blows on their pendulum switch, they light up." -Jason Krugman
