Clarksdale Fiddles
Danny Mangold, "Clarksdale Fiddles", 2012, Working violins and objects from Clarksdale, Mississippi [Sold]

[CLARKSDALE FIDDLES STATEMENT] Choices…life always has choices. “here or there?”…“good or evil?”…”up or down”… decisions and consequences… Here are two in the form of the first instrument to make their way to the Mississippi Delta…the violin. All parts on the violins and shrine mount are found objects from in and around the Heart of the Blues Delta in Mississippi.
Danny Mangold, "Clarksdale Fiddles", 2012, Working violins and objects from Clarksdale, Mississippi (Close Up), [Sold]

[SHRINE STATEMENT] By far the most fun and challenging of this Blues Violin project is the center shrine. I drew inspiration from the various prayer shrines found in homes as diverse as Christian, Buddhist, Muslim and Hindu. Found on the shrine are original postcards from Clarksdale in the 1940’s, a letter from a Department store in Downtown Clarksdale, my hotel key from the Riverside Hotel in Clarksdale, a faded red flower from Robert Johnson’s grave site, the Virgin Mary statue from a Second hand store in front of a 1940’s Zenith Wavemagnet antenna washed up un the shore of the Sunflower River. The rusty shaped mount on the bottom is part of a rain barrel strap near the Hopsen Plantation near the Crossroads of Highway 61.

["EL DIABLO" STATEMENT]

3.   The items affixed to the body and neck include:
a.   A tailpiece made from an old shoe horn
